One person
has died and several others injured after an explosion at an Istanbul
subway station that brought the city transport network to a halt, it has
been reported.
The
huge explosion, apparently triggered by a power transformer, caused
panic close to the metro station in the Bayrampasa district of the city.
One
person was killed and at least six people injured, NTV television said,
adding that the Istanbul municipality had suspended the city's metro
system.
Several ambulances and firefighters had been sent to the scene.
Electricity has also been cut to the southern district and surrounding areas, according to local media.
